HOSPITAL staff have been delayed on their way to work this morning following a fatal crash on the M5.

Police were called to the M5 northbound between J25 (Taunton) and J26 (Wellington) following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but sadly a person died.

Four other people were also injured and the M5 has remained closed for most of the morning.

Following the crash, a number of staff from Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton have been delayed on their way to work.

Matthew Bryant, chief operating officer at Musgrove Park Hospital, said some night staff have stayed on and staff local to the hospital have come in on their day off.

“A number of our staff have been delayed getting into the hospital this morning, but we have put our resilience plan in place and this is working well with all areas of the hospital covered, and minimal disruption to normal activity," Mr Bryant said.

“Some of our night staff have stayed on and a number of staff local to Musgrove have come in on their day off, including three A&E consultants.”

“We will do our best to see patients who are experiencing delays getting here today, but if you are unable to get here we will be in contact to rearrange your appointment.”
