A WOMAN was left with a broken rib, cuts and bruising after her and a teenage girl coming to her aid were both assaulted in Chard.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the woman, who is in her 40s, was attacked on Zembard Lane at around 7pm on January 29.

A police spokesman said: "She was punched in the face and then kicked in the head after she fell to the floor.

"The woman sustained a broken rib as well as extensive cuts and bruising in the incident.

"The girl was also assaulted as she came to the woman’s aid but was not injured.

"A man and a woman, both aged 30, have been arrested in connection with the incident and have been released under investigation while enquiries continue."
