Andrew Fox, the Ilminster Town Crier and organiser of the competition, said: “It was absolutely stunningly brilliant, even better than last year.

“It was absolutely excellent and the weather was great. All the criers were in fine voice and a good time was had by all.”

The award for best crier was given to Christian Ashdown of Haslemere.

He was followed by Tavistock’s David Turner in second place, and Stuart Cumming of Chard in third.

Best dressed crier went to Mike Bishop of Frome and best dressed escort was presented to Joan Dauncey from Melksham.

“I think I am going to have no option but to hold it again next year,” Mr Fox added.

“Last year was a little inaugural event.

“This year’s event seems to have hit the button.

“It was not too hot, which is a blessing when you are dressed up in full regalia.”

Mr Fox also thanked the event’s sponsors, including Cottage Flowers, Bonners of Ilminster and Home and Hardware, saying: “The sponsors were all wonderful this year.”
