HOMEOWNERS in Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne may be eligible for a low interest loan to help make essential repairs to their homes, thanks to a new scheme by South Somerset District Council.
People on low incomes who need to make improvements, but cannot afford to borrow commercially, can now apply for council subsided loan run by Wessex Home Improvement Loans.
The council has invested £200,000 into the scheme to offer loans of up to £15,000 at a fixed rate of 3%.
Specialist advisors help borrowers select a scheme that is most suited to their circumstances by looking at income and expenditure and discussing how much they can comfortably afford to borrow.
Applicants will also receive special help from a council officer who will inspect the finished work to confirm that it has been completed to an acceptable standard.
