PEOPLE in Chard are being asked to show their support for missing youngster, Madeleine McCann in an awareness day at Clare House childcare centre on Friday.

Four-year-old Madeleine disappeared from an apartment in Portugal on May 3, while her parents were at a nearby restaurant.

Police in Portugal are treating the incident as abduction.

Staff and children at the centre will mark the day by wearing yellow, and are inviting people to help them raise money to support the family in Portugal.

Jeanette O'Dwyer, centre manager, said: "Hopefully Madeleine will have been found by Friday, but if not at least we can help the family in their search."

People are being invited to tie a ribbon on the dragon outside the centre on Millfield by Jocelyn Park, and donate money to a fighting fund, to help the family.

Jeanette added: "This will give the people of Chard the chance to show their support for Madeleine and her family, and help spread awareness of the hundreds of children that go missing every year."

People can go along to the centre throughout Friday to show their support for the missing youngster.
