I THINK that there is a solution to most of the parking issues in Victoria Avenue.

My belief is that although a zebra crossing would be a good idea with regard to safer crossing for pedestrians, it would make parking even more of a problem as the zigzag area would probably take up at least eight parking spaces adding to the misery of trying to park for the residents.

I see now that the small industrial site is now going to be turned in to residences which I expect will again not have enough parking when it comes to be completed and add yet again to the problems.

My solution is simple if not radical. I suggest that an access road is put down the old railway cutting at the back of the even numbers of Victoria Ave and then double yellow lines could be put down that side of the road. This would then mean better vision up and down the Avenue and thus safety. Also vehicles would be able to pass one another safely over the entire length of the road. In addition the road could provide access to the rear of these houses as far down as the old pill box.

It could also provide, if so required, additional parking for the now hard-pressed residents of Victoria Court by the addition of a small car park. I feel that this could have been done years ago and perhaps Tesco and/or the developers of Victoria Court could have been pressed into helping with the finance of this. But it's probably too late for that.

It is my belief that the council should now look to fund this as they now receive much more council tax from Victoria Ave by way of all the extra development that has been allowed, and is being allowed, in the road.

I know that this would mean the loss of some green space, but the loss would be minimal when taken into account the benefits and the overall area of this green space. The land I believe can probably never be built on, due to it being just infilled.

So I would like to suggest this to the residents of Victoria Ave.

In order to do this we need to unite and push for this or some other practical solution if anyone has one.
