Fire crews worked through the night to tackle a blaze at a Somerset car show room last night.

Around 11 crews were sent to the fire at Lane Williams Vans Ltd near Burnham-on-Sea at around 9.30pm.

The A370 was closed by the authorities while they tackled the blaze which had started in a workshop and spread through the car show room.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "On arrival crews confirmed smoke issuing and requested a further 3 appliances to attend and confirmed a fire involving the roof of the building. 2 appliances from Weston Super Mare and 1 appliance from Cheddar along with the Incident Command Unit from Street were mobilised. As well as this crews requested the attendance a Water Carrier to attend for extra water."

At 10.45pm the building was reported to be 'heavily invovled' in fire and at 11.30 the building was showing signs of collapse.

The A470 re-opened to traffic and a fire investigation will take place this morning.
