A COUPLE from Broadway won a prestigious business award after using the internet to expand their storage company.

Keith and Cathy Taylor, directors of The UK Storage Company, won a Best Entrepreneur in Somerset award for making huge savings by searching and sourcing materials on-line.

The couple refurbished a three-storey former factory in Bridgwater which is soon expanding to contain 450 to 500 storage rooms.

The business allows people to store any item regardless of size in a private, self-contained room which can be accessed Monday to Saturday.

Recognising the growing demand for self-storage, Keith researched materials used to build the rooms online and was stunned by the potential savings.

Keith and Cathy now source their own raw materials, manufacture the components and manage the fit-out to their own structural designs.

Keith said: "We're absolutely delighted to win the Entrepreneurs Award, and think it was our 'outside the box' thinking and the use of the internet to help us develop the business that gave us the edge.

"We've gone from a company that used to put this work out to contract to a much more hands-on scenario."

The award is the second in two years for the Taylors.

Cathy said: "This latest business award is the cherry on the cake. It's welcome recognition of how we're pushing the boundaries to offer a cost-effective, top quality storage facility that meets the needs of customers."

The couple have appointed a manager to free them up to look for a second facility in the South-West.
