MEMBERS always know they are in for a treat when the caller is Frances Hilson and the musicians are Jeroka – so at a recent meeting they were not disappointed.
The dancers enjoyed a collection of dances with names like General Eric, Springtime, Three for Petronella, Ted’s Triplet Number 3, Shoreham Star, Huntsman’s Conception, Gang of Four, Jack’s Maggot, Moonraker, Drapers Gardens, The Nene Valley Circle and Postie’s Jig.
They were rounded off with the more familiar Colorado Swing, TAG and Dashing White Sergeant.
At the latest meeting, the nearest to Valentine’s Day, caller Eileen Nightingale chose the Flirtation Reel as the first dance.
The other dances she called were a mixture of longways dances, square dances and circle dances, with names such as Sun Assembly, Corns Rake, The Oak Tree, McKinerly’s Reel, Square Line Express, Silver and Gold and Swanee River.
Ivor and Holly ably accompanied all the dances.
At the next meeting tomorrow (Thursday) the musicians are Ian Bryden and friends, and the caller is Pip Oxenbury.
