THE talented Broadway Amateur Theatrical Society (BATS) gave another first class performance in its take on farce.
This extremely fast-paced comedy – written by Anthony Marriott and Bob Grant, and directed by Phil Hunt – was a triumph.
When his wife Elizabeth (Karin Newcombe) runs off with Ronald (Ken Steed), the Major, perfectly played by Mike Paine, decides to solve his debt problems by letting the basement flat of his wife’s house to two different tenants simultaneously.
The ensuing hilarity as the Major strives to keep them apart is further complicated by the arrival of his ex-wife and Ronald; fiancée Brenda (Sarah Pattuck), Philip’s boss Humphrey (Roger Mazillius) who is also Brenda’s father; and escort girl – Jacqueline – (Hannah Thurston).
The timing and continuity was impeccable, while nifty footwork and excellent delivery kept audiences in stitches throughout.
All-in-all a truly professional, entertaining production of a challenging script.
