CHARD Town were again left frustrated by the weather last night (Thursday) as their scheduled Toolstation Western League First Division match at Bishop Sutton was postponed.

Chard host Calne Town on Saturday (ko 3pm) before then travelling to Welton Rovers on Tuesday night (ko 7.30pm).

With Chard in an extremely challenging schedule - with another match now to fit in - they hope to call on Cardiff University student Scott Jakeman.

Dave Duarte and Steve Friend should be back, and it is hoped that Ryan Parris (who had nine stitches in a mouth injury picked up against Ashton & Backwell) will be fit enough for a spot on the bench.

Andy Holmes, James Boyland and Pat Golden, all unavailable for the Devizes fixture, should return for the Bishop Sutton trip.

Chard manager Paul Down described last Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Westbury as a great effort from the team.

He said: “After two games in three days, on a heavy pitch against a fresh side, we finished the stronger, with two great chances in the last 10 minutes to win.

“We only had 12 fit players available.”

The Western League season has been extended to May 12, so Chard v Almondsbury will now be played on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7 (ko noon).

ILMINSTER Town face a tough test as they continue the search for vital points in their Somerset County League Premier Division survival bid.

The Blues earned a vital late draw at Clutton last time out and welcome second-placed Fry Club to the Archie Gooch Pavilion this weekend, weather permitting.

Ilminster go into the match in 12th, three points above the drop zone.
