ANOTHER eventful day at the Commonwealth Games, with the mighty Adam Peaty and Yohan Blake both beaten, and more good news for the Somerset athletes.

Here's a round-up of what went on today, and a look ahead to day six on the Gold Coast.

Hockey

It was a fairly quiet outing for former King's College pupil Maddie Hinch, as England women moved into the semi-finals with a routine 3-0 win over Malaysia.

It was goalkeeper Hinch's opposite number, Farah Yahya, who made the headlines by saving two penalty strokes, and plenty more stops aside.

She couldn't hold back the tide by herself though, as goals from Ellie Watton, Hannah Martin and Sophie Bray sent England into the last four.

They have a two-day break until the semi-finals, with those matches taking place on Thursday, April 12 (10am and 12.15pm UK time) - England's opponents still to be decided.

There is a game for Wales men, including Wellington School's James Carson, though; they take on England men from 5.30am.

Lawn bowls

After disappointment in the men's triples and pairs, respectively, both Rob Paxton and Louis Ridout were back in action today.

In the singles, Paxton got off to the best possible start by winning his opening two matches in Section A.

He had to do it the hard way against Fiji's Arun Kumar, though, coming back from 7-2 and 11-5 down, as a run of points from ends 15 to 20 put him 18-12 up, and ultimately he won 21-13.

His second match, with Krishna Xalxo of India, was another topsy-turvy affair, as he found himself 12-3 down, before fighting back to 19-19, and two in the 22nd end gave him a 21-19 victory.

Tomorrow, Paxton takes on Jamaica's Andrew Newell (midnight) before a clash with his fellow table-topper Shannon McIlroy of New Zealand (3am).

In the men's fours, Ridout played lead as England beat Singapore 25-6 in their first match in Section D, an encounter which they dominated throughout.

The team of Ridout, David Bolt, Jamie Chestney and Sam Tolchard have their second match tomorrow at 7am, when they take on Brunei Darussalam.

Shooting

Taunton-born David Luckman has two Queen's Prize gold medals to defend from Glasgow 2014, and he and partner Parag Patel began the Queen's Prize Pairs well on Tuesday.

The event runs over two days, so tomorrow Luckman and Patel will look to continue the momentum from having scored 299- 39v, putting them in the lead as it stands, just ahead of pairs from South Africa and Australia.

The second day of the event begins at 1am UK time, so we don't have long to find out whether Luckman can add another Commonwealth gold to his collection.

He will then go again in the Queen's Prize Individual event (April 11-12), with Abbey and Ed Ling, plus Ellie Seward, going in the men's and women's trap from April 13.
