CHARD Town entertain Wincanton tonight (ko 7.30pm) to start a run of three Western League First Division games in eight days, eager to make amends for Saturday’s opening day defeat, writes Colin Dunford.
Then, on Saturday, Chard visit Portishead, who have had ground problems since an unwanted visit by travellers (ko 3pm).
This is followed by a home game against Bristol side Roman Glass St George next Wednesday (August 16, ko 7.30pm).
Chard manager Paul Down admitted it was a disappointing start to the season, with a below par performance.
He said: “We failed to carry out our game plans and did not find any consistency individually.
“As a match, it was quite average, with the team who scored first always going to win.
“We can’t feel sorry for ourselves with games coming thick and fast, and can put things right against Wincanton [where Down was boss for five years].
“We will be looking for a reaction and a performance.”
Brad Miles, who took a nasty challenge, is no more than 50/50 but the missing trio from Saturday – Max Westlake, Ben Haines and goalkeeper Jon Hill – are all available for selection.
Chard Reserves play a pre-season friendly on Saturday, hosting Bishops Lydeard (ko 5.30pm).
