Taunton St Andrew’s 1st XI (183-8) beat Ilminster 1st XI (98 all out) by 85 runs

ILMINSTER were beaten by 85 runs away to league leaders Taunton St Andrew’s, as James Hayman took 6-28 for the hosts.

The away side won the toss and opted to field first at the Wyvern Club, with St Andrew’s making it to 29 before losing opener Ed Byrom (11), bowled by Harry Montacute.

Captain James Regan and Michael Leask reached 78 without further loss, only for Louis Kraucamp and Richard Elswood to dismiss Leask (30), Kevin Parsons (1), Kyle Hopper (4), Regan (34) and Josh Horler (2) to leave the hosts in a bit of a sticky situation at 98-6.

But in stepped Rob Contreras, who smashed his way to 46 before being caught off the bowling of James Thompson, and the home side finished on 183-8 from their 50 overs.

For the away side, Elswood took 3-25, Montacute 2-33 and Kraucamp 2-41.

The Ilminster reply began positively, as the opening partnership reached 50 before J. Warry (10) became Hayman’s first victim.

Charlie Vickery (2) was then trapped lbw by Hayman as Ilminster stumbled onto 56-2, but opener Kraucamp remained at the crease and his 61 was the highest individual total of the match.

Yet his dismissal by Leask, at 82-3, precipitated a collapse.

Hayman saw off Sam Spurway (5) and Matt Davis (0) – meaning Ilminster were now 84-5 – before Deven Bell, Leask and Hayman took care of the tail.

The visitors were all out for 98, after losing seven wickets for just 16 runs.

St Andrew’s took 20 points from the match to Ilminster’s four, to sit top of the table with the away side now lying seventh.

This Saturday, June 3 (12.30pm start), Ilminster aim to bounce back at home to Lansdown, who are yet to win this season.
