ON Thursday, April 20 a squad of 10 boys and girls from Tatworth Primary School competed in the county hockey finals at Millfield School.

Having qualified through two tournaments to reach this stage, they were already ranked in the top seven teams in Somerset.

Each team played everyone else through the day to decide the county champions.

Tatworth started with a close match against Fairlands, winning 1-0, then faced the Park school – who had beaten Tatworth twice in previous tournaments – and produced a superb performance to win comfortably, 3-0.

That was followed by 5-0, 5-1 and 2-0 victories, leaving Tatworth needing to win their last game against Eastover to become county champions.

Again they produced an excellent performance and won 7-0 to be crowned champions.

This is an unbelievably good achievement, especially as they were smallest school competing.

Congratulations go to Sam G, Monty, Sam D, Finlay, James, Lola S, Freya, Darcie, Phoebe P and Daisy R for their triumph.

The school also thanked Mr Andy Swain, as attendance at his club and his links with Chard Hockey Club have helped the children improve immensely.
