THE Senior section joined forces with the Ladies on Monday for a mixed charity Bowmaker competition at Cricket St Thomas Golf Club.

Light rain greeted the 20 teams of three in a shotgun start, but fortunately the weather brightened, and the golfers finished up before the heavens opened.

A close finish in which only two points separated the first three places saw Donna Adey’s team finish in top spot with a combined score of 66 points.

Just one point behind were Mairi Wandless’s trio, with Christine Burrow’s side coming third.

The charity event raised £170, divided equally between the two sections, with £85 each going to Cystic Fibrosis (Ladies’ charity) and Diabetes UK (Seniors’).

Result: 1. Donna Adey; John Wandless & Brian Anderson 66 points
2. Mairi Wandless; Bob Barrow & Clive Fisk 65 points
3. Christine Burrows; Roger Stone & Nick Clarke 64 points

ON Thursday, the Seniors match team travelled to Bridport with high expectations, and were met with light rain and strong winds from the east, making accuracy difficult on this seaside course.

In a tight match, with four games going to the 18th green, captain Roger Stone and partner Alan Davis led by example and won the first game for the Saints team.

After a half and a loss, the match was tied at the halfway stage.

Then two wins followed, which ensured victory for the visitors, the Saints winning by 3½-2½.

Results: Roger Stone & Alan Davis won by 1 hole
Barrie Heath & Barry Singleton halved
Ron Davis & Peter Spencer-Farr lost by 2 holes
Chris Gingell & Bob Hollingsworth won by 2 & 1

FRIDAY saw the culmination of the Winter League competition which commenced in rainy conditions.

However, the weather held enough to complete the final round, and the chilly easterly breeze did not stop good scoring being returned.

Martin Leigh and Nick George took the day’s honours with 44 points, but the main feature of the day was the challenge of the two leaders who were separated by two points going into the final day.

In the event, George Wallace and Ian Griffiths conceded only one point to John Wandless and Robin Flower to take the trophy.

Result of the day: 1. Martin Leigh & Nick George 44 points
2. John Pearce & Norman Markby 42 points
3. John Wandless & Ian Griffiths 42 points

Final result: Winners: George Wallace & Ian Griffiths 260 points
Runners-up: John Wandless & Robin Flower 259 points
