TWO Chard Road Runners headed off to Cerne Abbas for the Cerne Giant Challenge.
The self-navigation, 31-mile race across the open countryside of Dorset was a real hilly affair which offered views aplenty and some fantastic changing conditions underfoot.
Jeremy Taylor was off the line first, making a full-on push to the front of the pack and hitting checkpoint one with just a few other runners still looking to be in contention.
Paul Masters was next off the line but, following a different gameplan of assisting a group with navigation experience, and carrying an injury into the race, he would have to slow right down by mile 26 despite good initial progress.
Taylor, meanwhile, opened up a convincing lead at the front of the pack and, passing through checkpoint three, was 15 minutes clear, heading into the finish.
Taylor crossed the line in 5:36:00 – a massive 20 minutes ahead of the second-placed runner.
Masters kept moving and, with great support from other runners, crossed the line in 7:02:02.
