THIS was a challenging weekend for Chard Road Runners.

Their first race was in St David, the UK’s smallest city, in West Wales, for the Ras Dewi Sant Coastal Path Marathon.

This 26.2-mile race takes in all that the hilly coast path can throw at the runners, with steep muddy paths, beaches, rocky outcrops and wild moorland hills.

Chard’s Paul Masters took on this challenging route, starting off steadily in the storm-force winds and rain.

He was going well but an ongoing injury started to have an impact as he fought against the wind, but he kept to his task, crossing the line in 05:58:35.

The next race saw six Road Runners take on the Slay The Dragon 10k.

This run out of Hinton St George is a really challenging off-road race that takes on the footpaths and a few muddy lanes.

Taking part were Kenny Timson, Martin Holley, Adrian Male, Emma Male, Helen Baxter and Gary Wheaton.

Setting off at a pace was Timson, with Holley hot on his heels, settling on to the top 10 as they headed out of the village.

Coming on behind were Adrian Male and Emma Male, both having a good run, with Baxter and Wheaton following.

Crossing the finish line was Kenny Timson in 41:04 and second place, ahead of Holley sprinting for the line in sixth in 43:19, with Adrian Male crossing in 49:51 and Emma Male coming in 53:27.

Helen Baxter hit the line in 1:04:49, while Gary Wheaton followed in with a time of 1:12:15.
