MANAGER Adam Fricker is hoping Chard’s recent fine form can provide a springboard for a late season surge up the Toolstation league table.

The Robins, who have won four of their last five matches, can look forward to a relatively easy run for the rest of the campaign and Fricker is looking to take full advantage.

He said: “We had a very tough programme early on in the season but on paper most of our hardest games are behind us.

“Our fixture list shows just one team above us in the table, and while you can never take anything for granted, I am hoping we can string a few more results together and get on a bit of a roll.”

Chard, who have eight matches to play, continue their programme today when they play on Keynsham’s 3G pitch (3pm).

With the club looking to move to a similar pitch at Holyrood Academy, the Robins will be able to enjoy a brief insight to the future of the club.

Fricker added: “Keynsham have got an advantage as they play on the surface all the time but we are playing well and I’m looking forward to a good game of football.”

Last Saturday the Robins gained a well-earned 3-2 victory at home to Wells City in the Toolstation league.

After going ahead by three clear goals the home side conceded twice goals in the second half but secured the three points with a workmanlike team performance.

Ed Butcher put Chard ahead in the 25th minute when he gathered the ball in midfield and fired a first time shot directly into the net from fully 35 yards.

The Robins doubled their lead on the stroke of half time when George Chlopecki hit a shot which rebounded past the ‘keeper.

In the second half most of the early play came from Chard as they forced several corners and saw a shot come back off the bar.

Then after Andy Martin shot narrowly wide Chard went three goals up on 65 minutes when a Wells City defender mis-kicked the ball, allowing Butcher to go through and coolly place past the advancing ‘keeper.

This seemed to spur Wells into action and they hit back with two goals in ten minutes.

After keeper Jason Hutchings was beaten by one shot the visitors made a swift break down the right flank.

As the move developed Chard’s defenders appealed for offside but the effort from close range was allowed to stand.

Chard won several free kicks late on with Oscar Latas firing just wide.
