AN unfortunate own goal from Lewis Fisher in the 92nd minute saw Chard Under-18s held to a 2-2 draw at Weston Super Mare in the Somerset Floodlight league.

However the point was enough to take Chard back to the top of the table.

It was a high quality exciting end to end encounter, in which Jake Symes in the Chard goal again excelled. Symes made two fine saves early on, while at the other end Louis Irwin twice missed the target when well placed.

Both sides hit the woodwork, Irwin squared the ball to Scott Jakeman who thumped it against the Weston post from 18 yards, and Symes touched a home effort onto the bar and away.

After the goal-less first half, Chard netted twice before the hour mark. Matt Buse, Irwin and Braeden Symes were all involved in the build up, before Dan Anjos sent a left footed shot low inside the post to break the deadlock after 50 minutes.

Chard kept pressing high up the big pitch and Irwin robbed a defender, before blasting the ball into the top corner after 58 minutes to make it 2-0 to Chard. Weston pulled one back on 73 minutes with a near post header from a corner.

At 2-1 Chard created another good chance to increase their lead, when Keiran Adams and Irwin set up Braeden Symes, whose six yard flick was cleared by a defender.

The home side pressed hard in the closing stages and through eight minutes of stoppage time.

Chard had Irwin sent off for two yellow cards in the 85th minute, and two minutes into added time, a far post corner came off the back of Chard defender Fisher's head and looped over Jake Symes and into the net, despite the best efforts of Harvey Saunders.
