CHARD Town reserves recorded a highly creditable 1-1 draw at home to Hatherleigh Town in the premier division of the Fresha Devon and Exeter league.

It was the second time in a month these teams have drawn a goal apiece and sees Hatherleigh stretch their unbeaten league run to 14 matches.

On a very sticky, nobly pitch, it took Chard 32 minutes to take the lead, when a crossfield pass from James Boyland found Max Westlake unmarked in the left channel, one touch and he volleyed home left footed.

On the stroke of half time goalkeeper Scott Wells-Burr, back from Axminster, and impressive in recent weeks, made a great save to hold onto Chard’s slender lead.

Ten minutes into the second half, Adam Tovey was fouled in the area, but got up to fire wide from the resultant penalty.

Two minutes later the visitors were level, Rob Stubbins fouled in the box and they equalized from the spot.

After a flurry of substitutions, including the welcome return of Danny Cleal, the game came to life in the final minutes.

A finger-tip save from Wells-Burr preserved Chard's lead and then Cleal swung in a cross from which Boyland headed wide and the encounter ended all square.

Chard: Scott Wells-Burr, Jamie Barfoot, Rob Stubbins (sub Danny Cleal 67mins), Ryan Parris, Keiran Bailey, Dan Aplin, Nathan Warren, Braeden Symes (sub Nathan Storey 67mins), Max Westlake, Adam Tovey (sub Dan Anjos 80 mins) James Boyland.
