CHARD produced a great performance to beat Taunton Vale C 7-2 in South East 1 of the Davis Wood league.

They got off to a great start, passing the ball well and putting pressure on the Vale defence.

Chard soon broke the deadlock with a good goal from Liam Murphy who rounded the keeper and slotted home with a reverse stick shot.

They soon added another with a trademark Bertie Squire effort – he beat a couple of defenders and knocked it round the keeper.

Vale stepped up their game and pulled a goal back from a short corner.

Chard’s midfield and attack of kept a high tempo and the score was soon 3-1 courtesy of another good finish from Squire.

But Vale pulled back another just before half time and at the break Chard knew the game was far from won.

They began the second period with fire and determination.

After a good link up between Brendan Viggers and Liam Murphy, Dom Balian found himself on the end of a good ball and fired it into the corner.

Chard then added another with a good run across the D and reverse stick finish from Murphy.

Matt Sheahan then got on the scoresheet following a good link up with Squire, firing a shot under the advancing keeper.

Not wanting to be left off the scoresheet Gary Wheaton, was one on one with the keeper and put a great reverse strike into the bottom corner.
