CHARD reserves made the 130 mile round trip to Hatherleigh Town and returned with a creditable point from their highflying opponents after a 1-1 draw.

James Boyland caused no end of problems to the home defence in the first half but Chard failed to convert a number of crosses in this Fresha Devon and Exeter league, premier division clash.

And it was against the run of play when Hatherleigh took the lead with a far post header, five minutes after the interval.

Rob Stubbins saw a great 20 yarder headed off the line and Braeden Symes hit a first time shot just wide as the Devon side ‘keeper advanced.

However after 65 minutes Symes was brought down in the penalty area and Adam Tovey sent the ‘keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot for the equaliser.

A fine left wing move involving Symes saw Max Westlake hit the post and Chard wasted several further opportunities.

On Saturday the reserves travel to Elmore in the league (3pm).

Chard: Scott Wells-Burr, Jamie Barfoot, Keiran Bailey, Ryan Parris, Rob Stubbins, Dan Aplin, Braeden Symes, Max Westlake, Adam Tovey, Nathan Storey, James Boyland. Subs Ben Mear (for Storey 60m), Dan Anjos (for Symes 84m).
