JAMES Boyland equalised seven minutes from time to give Chard reserves a deserved 1-1 draw on their final outing of 2014 at home to Topsham Town in the Devon and Exeter league.

After a goal-less first half, which saw Boyland, Ben Mear and Adam Cole all miss chances, it was Topsham who went ahead after 70 minutes with a far post header from Kieran Barber.

Thirteen minutes later Boyland’s pace took him clear of the visitors’ defence to slip the ball past the advancing keeper for the leveller.

There was still time for Boyland to go close to a winner in a match which saw a welcome return in goal for Scott Wells-Burr and an outstanding centre-back performance by Ryan Parris.

Chard reserves are without a game this Saturday, however Chard Under-18s entertain Clevedon Town next Tuesday (January 6) in the Somerset Floodlight Youth league. Kick-off at Zembard Lane will be 7.30pm.

Chard: Scott Wells-Burr, Keiran Bailey, Rob Stubbins (Jordan Chant 60mins), Ryan Parris, Callum Mooney, Jamie Barfoot (Hung Dang 75mins), Danny Aplin, Ben Mear, James Boyland, Adam Tovey, Adam Cole.
