CHARD Town’s Toolstation Western League clash with Wellington at North Street Playing Field was abandoned because of fog after 73 minutes with the home side leading 2-1.

There hadn’t been much to choose between the two sides in the first half although Wellington went ahead after 14 minutes with a header from Sam Towler.

After the break the Robins upped their game and were rewarded on 52 minutes when, after an excellent move emanating from Andy Martin and Sam Clark, Oscar Latas had his shot saved by the Wellington keeper only for the alert Ed Butcher to pounce on the rebound and tuck the ball in the net.

Visibility began to worsen and after 69 minutes Ben Haines was unlucky to make contact with a cross and head into his own net. From then on the game was interrupted by discussions between the referee, his assistants and the two managers, resulting in the decision to abandon proceedings.

Chard: Steve Butler, Craig Mawford, Ben Haines, Shaun Wells-Burr, Jamie Underwood, Max Westlake, Andy Martin, Sam Clark, Ed Butcher, Oscar Latas. Subs not used: Braeden Symes, Ben Mear, Darren Hutchings and Adam Fricker.
