ILMINSTER and Donyatt were involved in a thriller in the national Over-60s double rink.

Both teams scored heavily on their home rinks and the match finished tantalising close at 44-43 to Ilminster after nearly four hours of competitive play.

Ilminster now play Street in the next round.

Ilminster Ladies were also in cup action when they played Minehead in the Yetton Trophy.

This match was not such a close affair with Ilminster winning 86-59.

In the National Ladies Pairs Ilminster’s Dot Whelan and June Checketts won 21-9 at Taunton against S Trotman.

An Ilminster mixed pair of Heather Grinter and Jason Miles also won 21-9 against Lyn Williams and Di Routley from Taunton Deane.

CREWKERNE SMBC entertained Merriott SMBC for a mixed friendly last Monday and won 38-28.

CHARD saw more action in the Milford and Dormor Mixed Triples League with Royals up against the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes started well, taking the first two ends only for Royals to win the next six.

Royals were just too strong for Hurricanes and almost made a Hot Shot. They eventually won 21-12.

The other league game saw Magpies fly away from Greyhounds after the first end.

Many of the ends were very close but Magpies won by 16-11.
