CHARD fielded a full squad and got back to winning form with a 3-1 victory at home to Yeovil and Sherborne A in South East 1 of the Davis Wood league.
They were punished for sloppy passing early on when a Yeovil forward intercepted and put his side a goal up.
Chard upped their efforts and got straight back into the game, moving the ball around well and playing good hockey.
Their reward was a well-worked equaliser. Dom Balian and Brendan Viggers moved the ball through midfield with some lovely short passing and found Matt Sheahan in the D whose shot was saved by the keeper only to fall for Bertie Squires who calmly slotted it away.
Chard continued to apply pressure. A good ball was played out to the wing from Viggers to Sheahan who took it to the base line and cut it back to the top of the D for Liam Murphy.
The initial shot was on its way wide when Sheahan took a full stretch dive to divert it inside the post.
Chard’s third came after a good ball in from Murphy found Squires who produced a classy finish.
Squires took one touch, brought the ball off the ground, and knocked it round the advancing keeper.
In the second half Yeovil came out strongly but the Chard defence of Jonny Crease, Squires senior and Simon Green held them off well.
Yeovil were awarded a handful of penalty corners but Chard responded with excellent defending and some inspired saves from keeper Richard Green.
This Saturday Chard visit Taunton Vale C.
