WINSHAM United started the day as leaders of Division One but slipped to second after losing 2-1 at Luso Chard.

Their unbeaten record went after Jose Pinto and Tiago Casimiro netted first half goals for the home side.

Winsham upped their work rate after the break and pulled a goal back through Rob Long, whose free-kick from the half way line evaded not only his own forwards but also three defenders and the keeper to leave the ball nestling in the back of the net.

Winsham’s defeat left Barrington with the chance to regain top spot if they could take all three points from their visit to Chard United.

Things didn’t look good early on when Stuart Packer scored to give the hosts the lead. But Barrington weathered the storm and came back to claim victory thanks to an own goal and a strike by Mike Whitefield to extend their winning run to six.

Two goals by Andy Stevenson put Forton Rangers on the way to a 4-2 home win against Pymore.

Lee Richardson and 16-year-old Ethan Jefferson also found the net for the winners who move up to third, while leaving the visitors with one triumph from their opening six fixtures.

In the all-Dorset match involving Netherbury and Lyme Bantams it was Netherbury who came out on top after two strikes by Mark Cuff brought a 2-1 verdict. Wallace Blackmore netted Lyme’s consolation.

While Division Two leaders Drimpton were enjoying a blank weekend, it was left to the other teams to try and close the gap on the early season pacesetters.

Crewkerne Town Reserves took full advantage by recording a 5-3 victory at fellow high-flyers Thorncombe to move to within three points of the top team with a game in hand.

Kieran Adams, Paul Gold, Mike Traynor, Jamie Spurdle and Scott Barry bagged a goal apiece for the winners, with Thorncombe replying through Lee Fisher, Steve Rodber and John Allen.

There were celebrations also for Ilminster Town A who got their first point on the board courtesy of a 1-1 draw against Waytown Hounds. Rich Wilmott was the Town marksman.

Also picking up a much-needed point to move them away from the wrong end of the table were Combe A who had Ryan Scott and Simon Vincent on target in a 2-2 draw against Charmouth.

Jack Male found the net twice in Crewkerne Rangers’ narrow 3-2 win at home to Beaminster Reserves. James Martin was Rangers’ other scorer.

Newly-promoted Kingsbury continue to set the pace in Division Three following a 3-1 defeat of visitors Thorncombe Reserves.

The home side attacked from the outset and they didn’t have to wait long before Luke Monk put them ahead when he received a through ball from Jake Russell and beat the keeper from a tight angle.

It was 2-0 on the half hour as Giles McGilvray scored from the penalty spot after Nigel Jeffreys was brought down inside the area.

Early in the second half Jeffreys picked out Monk with a superb cross and the striker made no mistake as he coolly lifted the ball over the keeper and into the net. Thorncombe pulled a goal back with 20 minutes remaining through Craig Tovey.

Chard United Reserves kept the pressure on the leaders by beating Dowlish & Donyatt 3-2. Liam Male (2) and 51-year-old man-of-the-match Arthur Mather found the net for the winners, while Chris Lang hit a brace for Dowlish.

Simon Lock and Darren Dabinett struck two goals each for Barrington Reserves who climb to third following a 6-1 win over Merriott Dynamos.

Singles from Kyle Oliver and Gethyn Jenkins completed the winners total with Steve Jennings being the Dynamos lone marksman.

Matt Beechey scored for bottom club Millwey Rise Reserves as they suffered a 4-1 reverse at Shepton Beauchamp Reserves. Jordan Brain, Steve Rowlands, Shane Crocker and Steve Bennett contributed a goal apiece for the winners.

A 3-1 win against Chard Rangers moved South Petherton Reserves into the top half of the table. Petherton’s scorers were Andy Moody, Mark Whaites and Jimmy Rees, while Tom Warren replied for the losers.

It was a bad day for the three teams perched on the bottom rung of the Division Four ladder as they all suffered defeat and failed to add to their points tally.

Chard United All Stars lost 3-0 against Uplyme Reserves while a Gavin Tanner strike couldn’t save Drimpton Reserves from a 4-1 loss at high-flying Merriott Rovers.

The home side have yet to drop a point after four outings and won with ease thanks to two goals each from Ashley Cooper and Sam Rowswell.

Farway United Reserves were beaten by the odd goal in seven by Crewkerne Rangers Reserves. Elliott Greed and Aaron Hole both hit doubles for the winners.

Combe B held on to their slender one point lead at the top as they ended Hinton St George’s three match unbeaten run with a 4-3 triumph.

Jack Fussell (2) and Shane Jewell were Hinton’s scorers, while Richard Curwood, Ian Banfield, Mark Stoodley and Neil Reed hit a goal each for the winners.

Combe St Nicholas Reserves booked their place in the draw for the third round of the Somerset Junior Cup by hammering eight goals without reply against Bath & district league side Camden Rovers.

Jordan Allen netted a hat-trick in the rout that was completed by singles from Craig Every, Wayne Behan, Stuart Bicknell, Steve Every and Tom Shire.

Also through are West & Middle Chinnock who had to thank Mark Cawley for the extra-time goal that earned them a 4-3 victory at Hartcliffe.

The home side took the lead three times, but each time the goals were cancelled out by Cawley (twice) and Liam Samways. The Chinnock’s had the chance to settle the tie in normal time when they were awarded a penalty, but Damian Hart’s spot kick failed to find the net.

A Dan Peach goal couldn’t save Shepton Beauchamp from a 2-1 defeat at Interhound FC.
