THIRTY members of the Senior Section entered the Bowmaker competition last Monday.

The gentle breeze proved to be an asset as the majority of the ten teams managed to return impressive scores.

Teams led by John Pearce and Phil Hunt led the field for most of the day, both managing to register 75 points, with the former having a better back nine.

However, a strong finish by Mike Mosser’s side saw them take the lead, and the honours with 79 points.

Result: 1 Mike Mosser, Ron Sutherland & Mike Cox 79 pts; 2 John Pearce, Ed Paolini & Brian Hodder 75pts; 3 Phil Hunt, Colin Ireland & John Wallis 75pts.

On Tuesday the match team travelled to Radstock to play against the Fosse Way Seniors.

With several members away, the Windwhistle team was weakened, and despite some close finishes, lost 5-1.

Three games went to the final hole, a loss being experienced on each occasion.

However, a fine win by Alan Dowley & Bob Hollingworth was some consolation.

Results: Alan Davis & Barrie Singleton lost to Blacker & Button by 2 & 1; Barrie Heath & Andy Beale lost to Beadle & Ricketts by 3 & 2; Alan Dowley & Bob Hollingworth beat Tucker & Wrighton by 4 & 3; Bert Robinson & Brian Marsh lost to Underwood & Wright by 6 & 5; Mick Aldridge & Nobby Hodder lost to Bruce & Curtis by 3 & 1; Keith Branchflower & Richard Hall lost to Moon & Howell by 1 hole.

A fine day on Wednesday attracted 24 Seniors to a team Stableford competition.

In a very competitive field, the teams were very close, and only a single point separated the top three.

It looked as if a three way tie was in the offing until a long putt by Stuart Pope on the 18th hole decided the issue.

Result: 1 Stuart Pope, Ian Fielder & Nobby Hodder 77pts; 2 Mike Mosser, Gordon Barehan & George Willerton 76pts; 3 Brian Hodder, Brian Anderson & John Wallis 76 pts.

Prime course conditions greeted the 17 Seniors who entered the new Super Seniors competition on Friday.

This stableford competition is open to all members over the age of 75.

John Wallis was the early leader having made par on the first difficult hole, and would have returned a decent score had his putter not let him down.

Keith Potter made steady progress and finished level par to take second place.

However, it was left to Mike Light to take the honours with a blistering round of three under par to finish with 39 points.

Result: 1 Mike Light 39 pts, 2 Keith Potter 36pts, 3 John Wallis 34pts.
