A TEAM led by Maurice Arnold retained the Windwhistle Seniors’ Jubilee Silver Salver.

The competition, which takes the format of a Texas scramble attracted a total of 15 teams. No less than seven teams scored in the low 60s, but there was no stopping last years winners who returned a score of nett 57 to take the trophy by three shots.

Results: 1 Maurice Arnold, Richard Forster & Barrie Heath 57.00; 2 Bob White, Stuart Pope & Alan Chance 60.17.

The Seniors entertained Axecliff on Monday determined to avenge the heavy defeat they suffered earlier in the summer.

And Windwhistle turned the tables with a 4-2 victory.

They began well by winning the first two games. Two defeats at games three and four levelled the match but the last two pairings clinched the match.

Results: Alan Davis & Bert Robinson beat Grove & Mant by 6 & 5; John McOmish & Brian Marsh beat Bannister & Morgan by 4 & 2; Barrie Heath & Andy Beale lost to Heard & Ashbolt by 4 & 2; John Chance & Nobby Hodder lost to White & Walker by 1 hole; Mike Dawson & Gordon Bareham beat Tomes & Willis by 4 & 2; Roger Stone & Barry Singleton beat Strong & Polley by 7 & 5.

On Friday 34 Seniors competed in the August qualifying Stableford competition.

The weather made for perfect conditions with half the field scoring in excess of 30 points.

In Division 1 there was an exciting finish as firstly George Willerton returned a score of 37 points having a zero score on the 18th hole.

This proved very costly as three subsequent golfers all returned scores of 38 points, with the prize claimed by Frank Martin by virtue of a better back nine.

In Division 2 two players tied on 39 points, with the spoils going to Richard Hall.
