ILMINSTER enjoyed a comfortable 88-48 victory at Taunton Deane in the Turnbull Cup – the premier knockout competition for Somerset clubs.

They now visit Watchet in the fifth round on June 24.

Ilminster have not won the competition since 1986 although they were runners-up to Bristol in 2007.

Ilminster’s men have no less than six bowlers on Somerset duty against Devon at Exonia BC this Saturday.

They are Bev Brister, Peter Mattravers, Louis Ridout, Neil Rowe, Matt Hamilton and Jason Miles.

Because Ilminster have more than four bowlers in action they have been allowed to postpone their county league fixture.

The B team were away to Minehead A in South West 1 of the Somerset league. Ilminster won on two rinks but lost 59-52 overall.

Ilminster, the reigning champions, were beaten by a very strong Gillingham side in the first round of the Wessex Triples knockout cup on Friday.

On Sunday Ilminster Ladies won on all rinks when they visited Crewkerne in the Southey Trophy.
