Somerset County Premier

Ilminster Town 1, Street Res 3

ILMINSTER Town’s fight for survival in Somerset County Premier suffered a setback on Saturday as they were beaten by relegation rivals Street Reserves.

Street scored twice in the final ten minutes to snatch the win, as Ilminster switched off in the latter stages.

George Miles netted for the Blues but it wasn’t enough as they plunged back into the bottom three – albeit with five games in hand on the sides above.

Despite the result, manager Darren Manley wasn’t too disappointed with his side’s display, but did cite two defensive lapses as Ilminster’s downfall.

He said: “First half an hour we were brilliant and really pinned them back, but we knew they would strengthen their side with the first team not having a game and they did.

“They played some great football and their right back, especially, was a different class – he scored a great goal, even I clapped it.

“With ten minutes to go we switched off a bit and they scored from a quick free-kick that we didn’t stand on.

“We pushed them hard towards the end but couldn’t get anything.

The lads are disappointed but I thought we did really well.”
