BOTTOM club Merriott Canaries had the final say in the destination of the Milford and Dormer league.

The Canaries, who had performed better during the season than their league position might suggest, played the Royals in a match which would decide league winners.

The Royals would claim the trophy if they won or be runners up again if they lost. The match was very tense and low scoring but in the end the Canaries won 13-7 to leave Harlequins the league winners.

The week’s other match was a very tight affair but Hurricanes took the last two ends against Magpies to win the match. Magpies retained third place on shot difference from Greyhounds.

ILMINSTER lost 46-30 to clear leaders Taunton Deane in the Somerset and Devon mixed league last Wednesday.

Taunton played very well although they were given a fright by Barry Sims’ rink who came back from 13-3 down to draw 20-20.

On Thursday Ilminster ladies played a South West 1 league game against Donyatt. Due to a power failure the match was ended after 16 ends with Ilminster leading 37-34.

On Sunday Taunton BC were the visitors for a Somerset and Devon mixed league fixture and recorded a 42-26 victory.

The men’s club singles semi-finals will see Tony Peterson play Andy Williams and Will Anderson up against Matt Hamilton.

The ladies pairs final will feature Heather Sims and Dot Whelan against Myra Childs and June Checketts.

CREWKERNE Short Mat Bowls Club lost 73-43 at Stoke Sub Hamdon in a mixed friendly last Friday.

CHARDSTOCK BC played their last indoor match at Sidmouth on Saturday, losing a mixed friendly 70-34.
