TOMORROW Chard entertain Bracknell - who not long ago were playing Championship rugby - in National 3 (SW). Kick-off is at 2pm.

Chard 2nds are away to play leaders Hornets while the 3rds visit Midsomer Norton.

Last Saturday Weston-super-Mare just about deserved to win 25-13 at Chard and in doing so gave themselves still a slim chance of avoiding being in the bottom three at the end of the season.

Chard started the game strongly and deservedly took the lead with a penalty from Roberts but this was soon cancelled out with a similar effort from the Weston fly half Dickson.

Chard re-took the lead with another penalty but gradually Weston got on top and Chard conceded a number of penalties which eventually saw them lose a player to the bin.

Chard defended well despite being a player down but then proceeded to gave away a nightmare try.

Having turned over possession close to their line they set up a good position to clear the ball but saw the clearance kick charged down and the Weston No8 Gleeson was the beneficiary as he went over for an unconverted try.

Weston made the extra man count and they were now well on top and went further ahead when lock forward Eaton went over for their second try this time converted by Dickson.

As soon as Chard were back to their full complement they got back in the game and when the teams reached the break Weston had a 15-6 advantage.

Chard committed rugby suicide in the opening seconds of the half as they missed a host of tackles which allowed Dickson to waltz over for his teams third try.

He converted the try and the lead was now 16 points.

This ability to give away tries immediately after the interval in matches has been a real achilles heel for Chard this season To their credit Chard fought back well and were rewarded when number eight Rob Burrell drove over for a converted try following a lineout. Chard were back in the game but again almost immediately from the kick off they fell foul of the referee and conceded yet another penalty which Dickson duly goaled to put Weston 25-13 up.

The Chard forwards continued to work hard and with Gosden winning good lineout ball they scored their second try when again Burrell was driven over from a lineout.

The conversion was missed but Chard were now within a score of drawing the match but in a frantic finish Weston held on for what for them was a welcome victory.

Once again for Chard it was case of what might have been and how they will regret again a host of basic errors which resulted in a number of penalties being conceded ultimately cost them any chance of getting a win.

No one could quibble with the effort made by the players but another close contest was lost although with the loss only being by seven points at least Chard had the consolation of a losing bonus point.
