BUDDING rugby players will soon have the chance study an inspirational new course in Holyrood Academy’s Sixth Form.
September 2015 will see new students embark on a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Perf-ormance and Excellence in Rugby Union) led by Simon Jenkins, Head of Holy-rood’s Rugby Academy.
The vocational course is designed for boys who are keen to combine personal progression in Rugby Union together with their academic studies in physical education, sports coaching and sports development.
The two-year programme will qualify students in the BTEC as well as a Level 3 Sports Leaders’ Award and a Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Rugby Union.
Successful students will be able to go on to study in Further Education, as a BTEC qualification is equivalent to three A levels.
Exeter Chiefs are supporting the course by offering specialised training sessions at Sandy Park stadium and giving the opportunity for particularly talented players to be invited to their Elite Player Develop-ment groups.
Applications for this course are now being invited.
For more information or an application pack contact Simon Jenkins on sjenkins1@educ.somerset.gov.uk or call 01460-260100.
