THE Seniors team from Windwhistle Golf Club travelled to Radstock on Monday in the first leg of the “Fosseway fortnight.”

In heatwave conditions, the home side just managed to edge out the Windwhistle team by 4 games to 2.

With the match hanging in the balance at 3 games to 2, skipper John Pearce and Brian Anderson could not quite manage to hold on to a 3 hole advantage, eventually going down on the 18th hole.

Results: John Pearce & Brian Anderson lost to Bruce & White by 1 hole; Keith Potter & Geoff Dean beat Nation & Reeves by 1 hole; Bert Robinson & Ray Morris beat Phelps & Williams by 3 & 2; Mike Aldridge & Mike Bond lost to Ricketts& Latchman by 6 & 4; Charlie Murphy & Johnillard lost to Ticehurst & Cheyney by 7 & 6; Ted Bryden & Stuart Pope lost to Blacker & Curtis by 5 & 4.

A domestic "Best 2 from 3" tournament was held on Wednesday in perfect conditions for golf. In a field of 21, the team of Geoff Dean, Rodger Robertson & Bert Robinson emerged winners by a clear seven points over Derek Wickett, Brian Anderson & John Wallis.

Results: 1 Geoff Dean; Rodger Robertson & Bert Robinson 89 points; 2 Derek Wickett, Brian Anderson & John Wallis 82 points.

Due to other committments, a field of only 19 was available for the medal on Friday. In fine conditions the tournament developed into a three-horse race with Graham Bentley looking favourite after shooting a nett 33 on the first nine.

Ken Trussell finshed strongly to return a creditable nett 72, but Keith Potter came back with a back nine of 33 nett, finishing with a birdie four on the 18th to take the title by one shot.

Results: 1 Keith Potter (19), 87 gross, 68 nett; 2 Graham Bentley (17), 86 gross, 69 nett; 3 Ken Trussell (20), 92 gross, 72 nett.

The Seniors Open Championship will be held on Friday, July 10.
