THE second day of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games brought more success for Somerset's athletes, with promise of plenty more to come.

Here's a look at what you may have missed, and what's happening tomorrow.

Hockey

England men and women both enjoyed handsome wins on day two, the men beating Malaysia 7-0 and the women overcoming Wales 5-1.

Olympic final hero, and ex-King's College student, Maddie Hinch kept a clean sheet against South Africa yesterday, and although the goalkeeper was beaten by Eloise Laity's run and finish today, she did make some impressive saves.

That Laity goal made the score 2-1 in the second quarter, and Wales were right back in it, but three goals from England in the final period secured their second win from two games - Giselle Ansley, Susannah Townsend, Hannah Martin, Sophie Bray and Grace Balsdon with the goals.

Hinch and co have the day off tomorrow (they face India on Sunday, at 12.30am UK time), but James Carson, formerly of Wellington School, will look to be involved for Wales men tomorrow.

The Welsh, who drew 1-1 with Pakistan yesterday, take on Malaysia at 12.30am UK time.

Lawn bowls

There was more good news for Taunton Deane/Ilminster Bowling Club man Rob Paxton, as he skipped England into the quarter-finals of the men's triples.

Paxton, Jamie Chestney and David Bolt made it three wins out of three in Section A by beating India 15-14 in what was a closely-fought battle throughout, and then easing past South Africa 24-13.

In the men's pairs, meanwhile, Taunton-born Louis Ridout and Sam Tolchard built on their last match - which saw them come from 22-15 down with two ends remaining to draw 22-22 with Fiji - by seeing off Papua New Guinea 28-14.

Ridout and Tolchard followed that up with a dominant 24-9 win over Botswana, leaving them in third place in Section C.

Tomorrow brings the final group matches in both the men's pairs and triples.

Paxton and co take on Wales - who have also qualified for the knockout stages with three straight wins - at midnight UK time.

Then, at 3am, Ridout and Tolchard take on Section C leaders New Zealand, needing a win to stay in contention for the quarter-finals.

Dependent on those results, Paxton will be in the triples quarter-finals at 7am, and Ridout will hope to be in the pairs quarters at 10.30am tomorrow.

More highlights

Still no shooting tomorrow - those events start on Sunday, April 8 - so Abbey and Ed Ling (Wellington), David Luckman (Taunton) and Ellie Seward (Chard) are playing the waiting game for now.

So what else is available for your viewing pleasure?

Max Whitlock and Nile Wilson have already led England men to gold in the artistic gymnastics team event, and tomorrow they go head-to-head in the individual all-around final (from midnight).

From 4am, it's the triathlon mixed team relay, where England's Alistair and Jonny Brownlee are looking to bounce back from their disappointing, injury-affected individual finishes on Thursday.

Track cyclists Elinor Barker (Wales) and Katie Archibald (Scotland) are among the stars competing in the women's points race from 10.15am.

And at 10.45am, swimming phenomenon Adam Peaty will look to create more history in the 100m breaststroke final, having won this event at the Rio Olympics in a world record time.
