CHARD Road Runners were off to Tollard Royal over the weekend covering three events over two days, and they also ventured to the Jurassic Coast for the Weymouth Bay 10k.

First off the mark for a real challenging route was Kieron Chapman, who set off over the border into Dorset for the Larmer Tree Half Marathon.

Chapman made good progress, fighting through the mud to stay on his feet while those around him were slipping down, and he crossed the line in 2h 37m 22s, placing him 85th out of 255 runners.

Mick Whitworth was next to represent CRRs, at the Weymouth 10k.

Whitworth, who has been recovering from injury, overcame the fields and famous promenade to complete the route.

The next race was again at Tollard Royal, where Claire Gibbs took a late entry place into the Dark Larmer 8 Mile race, joining club-mate Helen Baxter in the event.

Starting off at 6pm, nearly 300 runners set off in an array of fairy lights, dayglow, luminous and reflective clothing, and peacock-themed tutus along a route that had already hosted a Half Marathon and a 10-mile race, so the going in the approaching darkness was slippery.

After a competitive finish, Baxter crossed the line in 1h 50m 57s, with Gibbs home in 1h 51m 02s.

The last of the Larmer Tree races for CRRs was the Marathon, and Paul Masters set out in almost ideal conditions albeit sticky under foot, as he took on his first race of the year.

The course included an array of uphill sections with the temperature rising, and Masters crossed the line in 4h 31m 23s, meaning he claimed 80th position out of 290.
