FURTHER to Emily Greenway’s success at the British Junior Powerlifting Championships in Scotland last November, she recently took part in the British Women’s Classic Championships in Manchester on February 24.
This was her first competition as a senior, and she outperformed even her own expectations by finishing fourth out of a top-class field of 25 lifters, narrowly missing out on a podium spot by 2.5 kg.
The 23-year-old teaching assistant and Phoenix Fitness member from Chard improved on her own South West records in the 72 kg weight category with her squat of 160 kg and deadlift of 172.5 kg, as well as her total of 405 kg.
She also set a personal best in the bench press of 72.5 kg.
It is less than a year since Greenway took part in her first competition and she is already making her mark on the British powerlifting scene.
British international and record holder Sheri Miles, who commentated on the event, stated that Greenway was one of her favourite lifters of the weekend.
Greenway, with the support of her coach Pierre Shillingford, is now looking forward to the All England Championships, which take place in Northampton at the end of May.
