FOLLOWING her record-breaking performance at the South West Open Powerlifting Championships earlier this year, Chard's Emily Greenway placed sixth at the British Junior Powerlifting Championships in Motherwell, Scotland, at the end of last month.

The 22-year-old teaching assistant and Phoenix Fitness member set new South West junior and senior records with her squat of 150kg and deadlift of 165kg, as well as her total of 385kg.

As well as setting those records and making the top six in a quality field of 19 lifters, Greenway was only 3kg off the British junior squat record for the 72kg weight category.

Her next aim is to break the 400kg total barrier, which she hopes to achieve at the British Women’s Powerlifting Championships in Manchester, at the end of February 2018.

Remarkably, the former Holyrood Academy student only started training for powerlifting at the start of this year.

Now, under the watchful eye of coach Pierre Shillingford – himself a World Championship powerlifter – she hopes to continue her success into senior level.
