Sedgemoor Division 2
Chard 5, White Eagles 3rds 1

CHARD Ladies made it four wins from four in Sedgemoor Division 2, as they defeated visitors White Eagles 3rds 5-1 on Saturday.

However, it only came after a below-par first half, in which they went ahead through Charlotte Mooney but then lost their composure and allowed the visitors a route back into the game.

White Eagles equalised after confusion in the Chard D, and the sides went in level at half time.

Following some strong words at the interval from vice-captain Lyndsay Blackshaw, and a reshuffle of positions, Chard resumed their usual high standards and dominated the rest of the game.

Player of the match Charlotte Mooney grabbed her second goal, with Tess Down also scoring twice – one of them a cracking short corner strike from the top of the D.

Blackshaw also found the net, to secure a 5-1 scoreline and their fourth straight victory.

This coming Saturday (October 21, 2pm start) Chard travel to face eighth-placed Winscombe 4ths.

Bodmin 3, Chard 1sts 0

CHARD faced a very different test in a less youthful and individually talented Bodmin side, who hit the visitors on the counter attack to go a goal up early on.

Only a heroic goal line clearance from Nathan Johnson prevented a second, but Chard then matched their opponents for the rest of the half offering chances at one end and keeping them out at the other.

The visitors went into the second half with a very real chance of clinching their first points of the season, but struggled once again to turn any kind of attacking threat into goals.

This didn’t seem to be the case for their opposition, however, with another two tap-ins clinched to put a slight dampener on the rest of what was an enthralling game.

Chard did come very close to a consolation at the end, with Kyle Wheaton hitting the crossbar and Danny Graham turning in the rebound only to find the whistle had already gone.

After only three games, Chard seem to be part of a three-team relegation battle and any points they can pick up will be vital.

Chard A 2, ECV Hornets 2

CHARD had to settle for a point in this evenly contested match, despite twice taking the lead.

They went ahead after a swift counter attack midway through the first half which ended with Justin Green setting up Gareth Eggle to score.

Despite Chard’s superiority, Hornets got back on level terms with a touch of good fortune when a speculative shot was deflected in.

The game was evenly balanced now but Chard went into half-time with the lead again after Eggle set up Green to fire home.

Hornets hit the post before scoring a deserved equaliser as the points were shared.

Sidmouth & Ottery C 0, Chard B 3

CHARD secured their second victory of the season against a young Sidmouth team.

Chard took the lead through Duncan Lewis, while other chances fell to Chard’s young forwards Rollo Squires and George Bromfield.

The second half was as much the same as the first, and a penalty corner was scored by Richard Jones before, in the dying minutes, Chard secured a third as Jones flicked the ball past a despairing keeper.
