THE penultimate round of the Team Tor 2000 racing series took place at Merryfield near Ilminster last Thursday in heavy rain and many of the McKinlays 1st Chard Wheelers riders who took part put in excellent performances in tough conditions.
Top ride came from Under-16 Jacob Board who raced in the men’s category 3 race.
Despite just recovering from a chest infection, he rode strongly throughout and broke clear with about half a mile to go. Board managed to stay clear with a determined sprint in the home straight and top the podium.
Sean Hogg sprinted to a great fourth place in the same race.
Justin Dance and ‘Buster’ Lawrence also rode through the wind, rain and dirt to finish well in the pack.
New member Oli Cooper secured a tough ridden third place in the U-16 race and Ruby Bond won the U-14 girls.
Ryan White and Joe West dominated the U-14 boys with White winning after pulling clear in the last lap.
White also took victory at Thruxton on Tuesday where he recorded his biggest ever winning margin.
He won by a mile, literally, finishing some 2 minutes 38 seconds ahead of second place.
