WINDWHISTLE Seniors began their week with the second round of the Challenge Cup, played at the Frome Golf Club.

A total of 36 members entered the event with the hope of a top ten finish which would qualify them for the final round in July. Few managed to cope with a difficult course and were further impeded by the recent tining of the greens.

It came down to a contest between Rod Young and Norman Markby with the former snatching victory at the final hole by one point.

The May Stableford qualifier last Wednesday attracted 56 Seniors who again found conditions difficult with no player making a score of par or better, rendering the competition a reductions only event.

Results: Division 1 – 1 Mike Burt 34pts, 2 Bob Hollingworth 32pts, 3 Trevor Dobson 32pts. Division 2 – 1 Paul England 30pts, 2 Gordon Bareham 28pts, 3 Bryan Frost 28pts.

On Friday 30 Seniors entered the Yellow Ball Bowmaker competition. The swirling wind played a large part in several of the teams losing the yellow ball which virtually put them out of the running.

Result: 1 John Pearce, Bert Robinson & Trevor Dobson 101pts; 2 Maurice Arnold, Barrie Heath & Tony Johnson 100pts; 3 Bob Barrow, Keith Potter & Ted Bryden 96pts.

The match team entertained the Brean Golf Club and secured a second victory of the season by 3-2.
