COMBE St Nicholas Ladies have made encouraging progress in their inaugural season, finishing fifth in division two of the Somerset Women’s league.
The new team was formed last September with manager Mel Cullingford deciding to make the switch from Ilminster reserves after two years in charge there.
With three other local teams in the league – Ilminster, Winsham and Merriott and Crewkerne – there is plenty of competition for footballing talent in South Somerset.
But some Ilminster players joined the new venture while others join from teams which had folded for form a squad of 18.
Combe made a rocky start to the season, losing 9-0 to Brislington Development.
But their formed gradually improved throughout the season and handsome wins followed over Team Mendip (5-0) and Wellington (7-0).
Combe are looking to increase their squad next season and anyone interested should contact Mel Cullingford on 07415-137326 or email: cullingfords@aol.com
