MEMBERS of Chard Hockey Club were saddened by the news that long-standing club member Chris Lambert had passed away.

Despite fighting an ongoing health problem over the last two seasons Chris had still managed to umpire a few games when he felt fit enough.

A club spokesman said: “During his time with the club Chris was a skilful player, an experienced coach and a qualified umpire and long serving committee member.

“Chris was a highly valued member who was always the first to volunteer his services on or off the field.

“He was one of those players who put more back into the game than he took out. Never without a cheery persona and always a colourful character, he will be fondly remembered for the flask of tea he always carried for a pre-match and post-match cuppa, and when umpiring one at half time as well.”

Family and friends will be celebrating Mr Lambert’s life and saying farewell at St Mary's Church in Bridport on Tuesday, January 25, at 12noon.
