CHARD were finally able to play this week after consecutive cancellations due to the frozen weather.
Chard started enthusiastically and after a spell of pressure on the opposition goal were awarded a penalty stroke, which Ros Clemmans converted. Chard continued to dominate and Ruth Butcher got Chard’s second goal when she reverse stick flicked over the prone goalkeeper.
Pippa Wyatt worked hard on the left, supporting both the attack and defence, and Claire Hoare and Willow Ray were in command in midfield. Alana Medforth and Katie Read mopped up any Wincanton attacks and Charlotte Collins and Zoe Goldthorpe added some strength to the forward line.
Chard’s third goal came when Ros Clemmans took the ball down the right hand side and found a very small gap near the post.
The second half was more evenly contested and Chard keeper Sue Stoker was called upon to make some saves, however, it was Wincanton’s shot-stopper that really shone and kept Chards score to the three they notched in the first half.
