CHARD were left bitterly disappointed that they didn’t pick up three points against their fellow strugglers from Wells, but in truth can only have themselves to blame.

Despite dominating for significant periods of the game, and having four or five clear cut chances, the game was settled by the only shot on target that the home side could muster.

Chard started well, passing the ball crisply, and repeatedly opened up the Mid Somerset defence but all too often the final ball did not match the approach play. When Chard did get a good sight of the goal there was a lack of conviction in their attempts to score, perhaps as a result of not having played or practiced for three weeks.

Chances were spurned and gradually the standard of passing diminished to be replaced by too much running with the ball, which proved far less effective.

Chard’s defence was barely troubled in the match and with a draw seemingly inevitable given the visitors inability to convert chances Mid Somerset forced a scramble in the penalty area and a quick snap shot flew past Dewick in the Chard goal.

Chard: Dewick, Cox, Jones, Sterland, Clarke, Kelly, Forsyth, Blackshaw, Turnock, Mcdermott, Dykes, Bidgood.
