CHARD continued their impressive recent form with a convincing win over an experienced Sidmouth team.
Chard started brightly and could have been two up in the first five minutes but spurned those chances and instead had to wait for Duncan Lewis to open the scoring with a penalty stroke.
For the rest of the first half Chard controlled the possession through Ed Ireland-Jones but were unable to add to their lead. Sidmouth had just one shot in the entire first period, which was ably saved by debutant goalie Kyle Wheaton.
After a stirring half time team talk Chard stepped up a gear and spread the ball across the pitch. Passes from defence by Kevin Mooney and Grahame Johnson found their wingers, John Reader and Connor Moon, who in turn set the front players off.
A silky run by the dynamic Roger Swan drew a foul and Chard were awarded a penalty corner, which Alan Cheffey converted from close range.
A series of great breaks by Bertie Lupton and Huw Edwards forced the home goalkeeper into some good saves but Lewis was able to beat him on two more occasions to give Chard a comfortable victory.
