Chard 2 Taunton Civil Service 1

CHARD went into this game knowing a win would guarantee promotion and they also knew it would be tough against third in the league Civil Service.

Chard started well, applying pressure and gaining two short corners in the first ten minutes.

They converted the second with a trademark move from Adam Veitch and Bertie Squire was at the post to touch it in.

Chard continued with the pressure and continued to dominate, however Civil Service were dangerous on the counter attack and pulled a goal back to equalise.

Chard responded towards the end of the half with Gary Wheaton putting it in after a good cross from Brendan Viggers.

In the second half Chard really needed another goal to get the game safe. They had plenty of opportunities, however the Civil Service ‘keeper was on top form and Chard failed to find the clinical finish they needed.

Captain Crease was a given a yellow after a brave tackle to slow down an attack and emotions were running high but this spurred their effort and they defended well with Squire making a great goal line clearance and Nath Johnson making some fine tackles.

Chard’s tactic of rotating the midfield frequently paid off with Civil Service tiring towards then end .

It was a relief when the final whistle was blown and next week they face Ashmoor B at home (2pm) and a win will crown them league champions.
