CHARD A's ambitions of forcing their way into the promotion picture in South East 2 came unstuck against second-placed West Dorset in Bridport when they lost 2-0 to West Dorset A.
Chard had the better of a scrappy first half, with both teams denying each other time and space, and forcing constant turnover of possession.
Chard captain Gareth Eggle hit a post, and Denning and Goss forced the home keeper into good saves, while Callum Bailey in the Chard goal also made a couple of excellent interventions.
Having made some superb saves, Bailey then got his feet in a muddle to let through a more routine save midway through the second half to gift West Dorset the lead.
Chard’s attempts to push men forward in search of an equaliser played into the home side’s hands as they exploited the gaps appearing in the visitors rear-guard to score a late second.
